An introduction to Autumn.
Welcome, Autumn!
We had such a brilliant Summer this year. The sun shone a LOT (which is a blessing when you live this far up North!), the beaches were packed and weekends were filled with ocean dips and relaxed wanders along the coast. I talk about it often, but it really is true that each season has it’s own personality, and with that comes an interesting shift in mood, colour and vision. Moving with the seasons is a beautiful way to create a brand that feels energised and inspiring all year round.
Autumn is such a warm and wonderful brand season — comforting and full of soul. I’ve always found that the brand personality associated with Autumn is the most easy to predict. Getting your head around the feelings, language and colours associated with Spring, Summer and Winter, to me, feels like much more of a task than it does for Autumn. Much like you might be imagining, the palette associated with this season is warm and intense; think warm greens and oranges, with some deep pinks and purples. It can be bright and bold in places, but certainly has the muted edge that you’d expect. I think that most of us will associate Autumn mostly with a change in colour, as our gardens adjust and slow down. How does Autumn feel to you? For me, it feels rustic and unrefined — our natural surroundings are changing really quickly, and things feel a little more ‘rough around the edges’ than they do in the Summer when blooms and foliage are mostly at their best. We’re surrounded by deeper colours and pointed silhouettes of shedding trees, yet the days are still bright with a little warmth. Around this time of year, my brand messaging feels encouraging and compassionate; a nod to the warm and welcoming feelings that come with the season.
If you have read any of my previous seasonal blog posts, you’ll likely know that I like to welcome the seasons in the form of colour. The colour palette for The Brand House is largely neutral, which gives me the opportunity to introduce seasonal colours, in small amounts, throughout the year — in Spring I always add a warm green, in Summer I may go for a soft yellow or a calm, muted blue, in Autumn a dark orange or pink and in Winter perhaps a deep red or navy. Always do what feels right for you and your brand, but don’t be afraid to play with seasonal elements that add a little fun and excitement. You’ll probably notice over the next few months that my IG feed will look slightly different, as I carefully choose imagery and messaging that resonates with the season we’re in. Visually, Autumn is probably my favourite season, and I’m so looking forward to subtly incorporating it across my visual assets over the next couple of months — never enough to create a huge point of different, but certainly to a level where it feels natural and relatable (and that’s what it’s all about, surely?). If you’d like to introduce some splashes of Autumn to your brand this year, here are some of my favourite ways to add a little Fall to The Brand House:
- Adding an Autumn inspired accent colour to my website or social media content. For me, imagery that has that warm and fiery palette that you’d expect from the season will take centre stage. Deep oranges and pinks will likely hit the mark, but for you, a warm green or deep, intense yellow could work (think mustard!). Have a play around and see what feels right.
- Taking extra care with my brand messaging, to make sure it feels welcoming and supportive.
